Footwear Recommendations

Tailored to Your Unique Needs

The shoes you wear have a huge impact on your foot health, posture, and overall comfort. At Stride Footcare in West End, Brisbane, we offer personalised footwear recommendations based on expert assessment by our experienced podiatrists.

Why Does Footwear Matter?

The wrong shoes can contribute to a range of issues—from foot and heel pain to knee, hip and lower back discomfort. Whether you're on your feet all day at work, training for a marathon, or just looking for more comfortable shoes, the right footwear makes all the difference.

Recommendations Based on Assessment

Every foot is different. That’s why we start with a comprehensive biomechanical assessment, where we examine your gait, foot posture, and joint alignment. We also take a close look at your current footwear to see if it’s supporting your feet the way it should.

From there, we can recommend shoes that match your individual needs—whether you need supportive runners, everyday casual shoes, or durable work boots.

We Know Good Shoes—And Good Shoe Stores

We’ve built strong relationships with trusted local shoe retailers who understand foot health. If you need help finding the right shoes, we can point you in the direction of shops that stock quality, podiatrist-recommended footwear. You’ll get the benefit of our expertise—and theirs.

Good Footwear Qualities to Look for

  • Firm through midsole - you shouldn’t be able to bend or twist the shoe in half

  • Firm heel counter - the back of the shoe shouldn’t collapse when you push in on it

  • Adequate cushioning

  • Appropriate length and width for your foot type - stand on the removable insole outside of the shoe to check this

  • Depending on your biomechanics, the podiatrist may recommend a shoe with a high or low heel pitch - the height of the heel in comparison to the forefoot

Suitable for All Ages & Activities

No matter your lifestyle or age, we’ll help you choose the right shoes for:

  • Running and walking

  • Standing occupations (e.g. hospitality, trades, nursing)

  • School shoes for kids

  • Casual weekend wear

  • Problem feet (e.g. bunions, flat feet, high arches)

We also offer guidance on how often shoes should be replaced and how to spot signs of wear that could be affecting your feet.

Need Orthotics Too?

If your assessment suggests you’d benefit from custom foot orthotics, we’ll make sure your footwear can accommodate them properly. In some cases, this might mean recommending specific shoe brands or styles designed to support orthotic use.
